How it works
How to write an Instagram bio in 3 steps
- 1
Say who you are
What you do, who it's for, and one thing that makes you different. A location helps if you serve one.
- 2
Pick a tone
Casual, professional, playful, or minimal. The tone sets the emoji count and how direct the call to action is.
- 3
Copy and paste
Every bio is under 150 characters. Paste it into Edit profile, then add your link below it.
What makes a good Instagram bio
Your bio is the 150 characters that decide whether a visitor taps Follow or leaves. It sits under your name, above your link, and it's the first thing anyone who lands from a reel or a tag reads. It doesn't need to be clever. It needs to say what you do, who it's for, and what to do next. This generator gives you 5 versions of exactly that.
How the generator works
Describe yourself or your brand, pick a tone, and the tool sends that to an AI model on Lemonpost's server. It returns 5 bios, each within the 150-character limit, and the counter next to each one shows the exact length. We don't store what you type or the bios that come back, and there's no login. Each visitor gets a daily free limit so the tool stays quick for everyone, and it resets the next day. The 5 bios use different structures: one line per fact, a single sentence, a stacked list with emoji, and so on. Pick the shape that matches your profile and edit the words to sound like you. Minimal gives you 1 or 2 lines with no emoji, which suits photographers, designers, and anyone whose grid does the talking.
Instagram bio rules and limits
The bio field takes up to 150 characters, and line breaks count. Emoji count as at least 1 character each, and some count as 2. The name field above the bio is separate, has its own shorter limit, and is searchable, so put your real name or what you do there rather than repeating your username. You can add hashtags and @mentions in the bio, and they become tappable links. Web links in the bio text itself aren't clickable; they go in the dedicated links section, which allows several links. Line breaks sometimes collapse when you paste from another app, and our Instagram line break generator fixes that. Business and creator accounts can also show a category label (Photographer, Restaurant, and so on) above the bio, and there's a separate pronouns field. Neither counts toward the 150, so don't spend bio characters on them.
A bio structure that works
Line 1: what you do, in the words a stranger would use. 'Wedding photographer' beats 'visual storyteller'. Line 2: who it's for or where you are, because both help the right people decide fast. Line 3: proof or personality, like a client count, an award, or the thing you're known for. Line 4: the call to action, pointing at the link below. Keep each line short enough to read at a glance, and use emoji as bullets if they fit your brand, not as decoration on every line. Read the finished bio on your phone, not your laptop, since that's where nearly everyone sees it. If you run out of room, cut the adjectives first: 'award-winning' costs 13 characters and convinces nobody, while 'bookings open' tells people what to do.
The link under your bio
Instagram gives you a links section, but most accounts want one link that leads to several places: a shop, a booking page, the latest video, a newsletter. That's what a link-in-bio page is for. Lemonpost includes one on every plan, on your own lemonl.ink URL, with click tracking per link so you can see which call to action actually gets tapped. Whatever you use, make the bio's last line and the link agree: if the bio says 'Book a shoot', the first button on the page should book a shoot. A bio that promises one thing and a link that offers another is where most profile visits quietly end. Keep the link's first button and the bio's last line in step whenever you change one of them.
Good to know
Instagram bios, answered
150, including spaces, line breaks, and emoji. Every bio this tool writes stays under that limit, and the counter shows the exact count so you can add a word or two if there's room.
Yes. The bio field supports line breaks, though they sometimes collapse when you paste from another app. If that happens, run the bio through our Instagram line break generator and paste again.
Yes. Hashtags and @mentions become tappable links. Web addresses in the bio text don't, which is why the link goes in the separate links section under the bio.
Put them in the name field first, since Instagram search weighs the name field more than the bio. Then use plain words in the bio that describe what you do, in the terms people would actually search for.
Yes, with a daily limit per visitor so the tool stays quick for everyone. No account, no watermark. We make Lemonpost, a simple social media scheduler, and the free tools are our way of being useful before you ever need us.
No. It goes to an AI model on our server, the bios come back to your browser, and nothing is saved. Copy what you want to keep before you leave.
