How it works
How to pick a TikTok username in 3 steps
- 1
Describe yourself
Type your name, brand, or the kind of videos you make. A word on the mood helps.
- 2
Pick a style
Casual, professional, playful, or minimal. TikTok skews casual, but a clean minimal handle ages well.
- 3
Check and claim
Search the name in the TikTok app. If it's taken, try a period or a niche word, or get 10 more.
What makes a good TikTok username
On TikTok your username is spoken as often as it's typed. It gets read out in duets, stitches, and shoutouts, so it needs to survive being said out loud. Short, clear, no doubt about the spelling. This generator gives you 10 options that fit TikTok's rules, and the rest is checking what's free.
How the generator works
You type a name, brand, or niche, pick a style, and the tool sends it to an AI model on Lemonpost's server. It returns 10 usernames within TikTok's length and character rules. Nothing you type is stored, no login is needed, and each visitor has a daily free limit that resets the next day. Availability isn't checked, because TikTok has no reliable public way to do it. Search the name in the app, or open tiktok.com/@thename in a browser and see whether a profile loads. Keep a shortlist, since the short, clean names go fast, and have a fallback with a period or a niche word ready for each one. The style setting changes the flavor: casual leans on everyday words, professional keeps it to a name and a niche, playful allows wordplay, and minimal gives you the shortest names that still make sense.
TikTok username rules and limits
TikTok usernames can be 2 to 24 characters and use letters, numbers, underscores, and periods. No spaces or other symbols, and a username can't end in a period. Once you change it, TikTok makes you wait 30 days before the next change, so treat it as a decision, not a draft. Your username is separate from your nickname, the display name shown above your videos, which allows spaces and emoji and can be changed more often. Old mentions and the old profile link stop working after a change, so update your Instagram bio and link-in-bio page the same day. TikTok also reserves some names and removes ones that impersonate people or brands, so a name that looks free but throws an error is probably taken behind the scenes. Your bio, by contrast, is capped at 80 characters, so the username has to carry a lot of the 'what is this account' work on its own.
What makes a TikTok handle stick
Think about the For You page: someone sees one video, likes it, and wants to find you again. They'll type what they remember. So the name should be short, spelled the obvious way, and free of clever substitutions (no zeros for o's). Match your Instagram and YouTube handles if you can, so a fan who finds you on one app can find you on the others. If your first pick is taken, a period between words (leo.retail) or a niche word usually beats a number on the end. And avoid anything tied to a trend or a year, because your name will outlast both. Say the shortlist out loud to someone and ask them to type each one. The name they get right first time is the one to claim. Names that work in a spoken shoutout tend to be 2 real words or a name plus a topic, not an abbreviation.
After you claim it
Set your nickname to something searchable (your name or what you do), since TikTok search matches both fields. Write a short bio, which is capped at 80 characters, so it's more of a tagline than a paragraph. Post 3 videos before you share the handle anywhere, because an empty profile is hard to follow. Then keep it fed. Our TikTok scheduler queues videos and photo carousels in advance with covers and privacy settings, so the account keeps posting even when you're busy filming the next batch. If you post daily, filming a week of videos in one sitting and scheduling them is the difference between an account that grows and one that stalls.

TikTok usernames, answered
2 to 24 characters, using letters, numbers, periods, and underscores. It can't end with a period, and shorter is better because people hear it before they type it.
Once every 30 days. Your followers and videos stay, but the old profile link stops working and old mentions won't update, so plan the change and update your other bios right away.
No. Search the name in the TikTok app, or open tiktok.com/@thename in a browser. If a profile loads, it's taken.
The username is your unique @handle in the URL. The nickname is the display name above your videos, which allows spaces and emoji and isn't unique. The generator writes usernames; you can use any of them as a nickname too.
