How it works
How to add line breaks on Instagram
- 1
Paste your caption
Write it here or paste it from your notes app. Leave a blank line wherever you want space between paragraphs.
- 2
Let the tool clean it up
It strips the hidden trailing spaces that make Instagram collapse your breaks, and fills blank lines with an invisible spacer.
- 3
Copy and post
Copy the result and paste it into Instagram or your scheduler. The spacing stays exactly as you see it here.
Why Instagram removes your line breaks
You write a tidy caption with space between paragraphs, hit share, and Instagram squashes the whole thing into one wall of text. It's not you, and it's not random. Instagram's apps quietly drop line breaks in a few specific situations, and once you know them, the fix is simple.
The caption looks fine until you hit share
Instagram keeps a line break only when the line above it ends cleanly. If the line ends with a space, a tab, or one of the invisible characters phones sneak in, the break after it gets collapsed when the post publishes. The caption editor shows your formatting right up until the moment it throws it away, which is why the problem feels so unpredictable.
Trailing spaces are the usual culprit
Phone keyboards add a space after autocomplete and dictation without telling you. Notes apps and word processors add their own invisible characters when you copy text out of them. You can't see any of this, but Instagram can. This tool removes every trailing space and hidden character from the end of each line, which on its own fixes most collapsed captions.
What the invisible spacer does
For blank lines between paragraphs, the tool can insert a special character that looks exactly like empty space but counts as text. Instagram then treats the blank line as a line with content and keeps it. It's the same trick people do by hand with dots or dashes between paragraphs, minus the visible clutter. You can switch it off if you'd rather keep pure blank lines.
Tips for captions people actually read
Short paragraphs beat long ones, and the first line matters most: only around 125 characters show before the More button, so put the hook up front. Keep hashtags on their own lines at the end so they don't interrupt the story. And if you write captions in batches, format them all here first, then schedule the lot in one sitting.

Instagram line breaks, answered
Instagram drops a line break when the line before it ends in a space or another hidden whitespace character. Phone keyboards add these all the time, after autocomplete for example, so captions that look clean often aren't. Removing the trailing characters is what makes the breaks stick.
Leave an empty line in the tool where you want the space, then copy the result. The tool makes sure the lines around it end cleanly, and can fill the blank line with an invisible spacer so it survives in every app.
It's a braille blank character. It looks like empty space but counts as text, so Instagram keeps the line instead of collapsing it. It's harmless, doesn't show in your caption, and you can turn it off with the toggle.
Yes. Bios collapse line breaks the same way captions do. Paste your bio, copy the formatted version, and paste it into the bio field in the Instagram app.
Captions can be up to 2,200 characters, hashtags included. Only about the first 125 characters show in the feed before the More button, so lead with the line you most want people to read. The counter in the tool tracks the 2,200 limit for you.
No. Instagram doesn't rank posts by caption formatting. What formatting does change is whether people keep reading, and captions that are easy to scan tend to hold attention longer than a solid wall of text.
Yes. The cleanup is useful anywhere: trailing spaces cause the same trouble on other platforms, and clean spacing reads better everywhere. The character counter is Instagram's, so just ignore it elsewhere.
