How it works
How to calculate your TikTok engagement rate
- 1
Gather your numbers
Take your follower count, then average the likes and comments from your last 10 to 12 videos.
- 2
Enter them here
Type the three numbers into the calculator. The rate updates as you type, no button to press.
- 3
Read your result
You get a percentage and a band from below average to excellent, tuned to TikTok's much higher normal.
What a good TikTok engagement rate looks like
TikTok engagement runs hotter than any other major platform. Because the For You page shows your videos to plenty of people who don't follow you, likes pile up against a follower count that hasn't caught up yet, and rates that would be spectacular on Instagram are simply normal here.
The formula this calculator uses
Likes plus comments, divided by followers, times 100, averaged over your last 10 to 12 videos. TikTok's spiky distribution makes averaging matter even more than elsewhere: one For You hit can be fifty times your usual numbers, so a single-video reading tells you almost nothing.
TikTok benchmarks in 2026
Under 3 percent is below par for TikTok, 3 to 6 percent is typical, 6 to 10 percent is good, and above 10 percent is excellent. Small accounts regularly exceed 15 percent. If you're comparing yourself to Instagram numbers, roughly triple the bar.
Why the number matters on TikTok
TikTok's algorithm is unusually engagement-driven: completion, likes, and comments on early views decide whether a video graduates to bigger audiences. Brands also lean on engagement rate here more than follower count, precisely because the For You page makes big view counts cheap and real engagement expensive.
How to raise it on TikTok
The first second decides everything, so open mid-action rather than with an intro. Keep videos as short as the idea allows, since completion rate feeds distribution. Reply to comments with videos when you can, post when your audience is awake, and ride sounds and formats while they're still rising.
Good to know
TikTok engagement, answered
Between 3 and 6 percent is typical, 6 to 10 percent is good, and above 10 percent is excellent. TikTok runs far hotter than Instagram, so don't compare the numbers across platforms directly.
The For You page shows your videos to many non-followers, so likes accumulate against a smaller follower base. Video also invites more casual likes than static posts. Higher averages are structural, not a sign every TikTok account is doing better.
This tool uses followers, which is what most brand benchmarks use. Views-based rates, likes plus comments divided by views, are useful for judging individual videos, and typically land between 5 and 15 percent.
Ten to twelve recent videos. TikTok performance is spiky, so a decent sample matters more here than on any other platform. Leave out your single biggest viral outlier if you want a number that reflects a normal week.
They're strong signals to TikTok's algorithm, but they're not part of the standard public formula, which sticks to likes and comments. This calculator does the same so your number is comparable to published benchmarks.
